Roads are poor and largely unpaved

Driving is dangerous and the roads poor in most areas.

Burkina Faso

Tarred roads from Ouagadougou to Bobo-Dioulasso and on to Mali or Ivory Coast Border, Koupela border.

Cameroun

Tarred roads between Douala to Kumba; Buea to Limbe; Bafoussam to Bamenda and Yaounde, Yaounde and Sangelima, Bafia and Batchenga

Canada

Probably the best way to travel, roads good, advisable to have a credit card when renting.

Central African Republic

Only roads from Bangui to Sibut, Bossemblee and M'baiki are tarred

Chad

Only roads between N'Djamena, Guelengdeng and Massaguet are tarred but are in a poor state.

Chile

Foreign drivers require an international driving licence.

Colombia

City driving not recommended good highways

El Salvador

Carry all your documents, roads are poor. Exoect to arose military interest at check points. Double check before driving that you destination and route is safe from attack.

Equatorial Guinea

Tarred road around Bioko Island, also from Bata to Ebebiy and to Mbini.

Gambia, The

Tarred roads Banjui to Basse-Santa-Su, and roads of to Ziguinchor and from Barra.

Ghana

Tarred roads link most cities and towns.

Guinea

Tarred Conakry to Labe, to Kankan via Faranah, and to Gueckedou.

Guinea-Bissau

Tarred roads between Bissau and Pitche, and between Bissau and Cachu

Guyana

Some paved roads but most are poor and unpaved

Honduras

Main roads are good but the rest tend to be dirt roads which can be unpassible during rain. Police and military checks are frequent. City driving is probably best avoided.

Hong Kong

Roads very congested, parking impossible, public transport is excellent and taxis inexpensive.

Indonesia

Drive on left, main roads fairly good, side roads can be poor, tourist areas congested.

Ivory Coast

On of the best tarred networks in West Africa.

Japan

Do not attempt to drive in Japan unless necessary.

Liberia

Government buses between Monrovia and Klay, Ganta(via Gbarnga)

Macedonia

Drivers of foreign registered cars must by hard currency petrol coupons valid at few filling stations.

Malaysia

One main highway Kuala Lumpar-Malacca-Johore Bahru lightly travelled due to tolls, Trunk road Kuala Lumpa-Lupur and Penang very busy night and day.

Mali

Tarred Bamako to Gao, to Sikasso and Zegoua, and from Sikassoto Bla and San.

Mauritania

Tarred between Rosso and Atar, via Nouakcott and Akjoujt, and between Nouakchott and Nema. Roads may be blocked by sand.

Nicaragua

The roads are the worst in central America. Of the main routes roads are of the dirt variaty. Beware at night of vehicles driving without lights.

Niger

Most main routes are tarred

Good roads the quickest way to get around

Pakistan

Road travel outside towns may need armed escort.

Paraguay

Night driving is not recommended.

Philippines

Roads vary from excellent to dirt tracks. Drive on the right. Parking not a problem

Senegal

Tarred between major towns.

Sierra Leone

Tarred between Freetown and Kenama via Bo, and Freetown and Sefadu via Makeni.

Singapore

Drive on left. Public transport and taxis are better due to short distances and parking problems.

Thailand

Main roads congested, sign in Thai only. Driving at night is not advised due to highway robbery.

Togo

Tarred between Dapaong and Lome, coastal route between Ghana and Nigeria.

U.S.A.

Use well lit car parks make sure you have a good map.

Venezuela

Comfortable good extensive network of roads.

Vietnam

Self-Drive and Motorcycle hire are not recommended.

Zambia

Avoid driving out of town at night.

Zimbabwe

Avoid driving out of town at night.
